Chapter 6 - Simone Solo: designing a distributed instrument through long-term research-creation
Presentation of Simone Solo
Simone Solo basic functioning
This video shows the basic functioning of Simone Solo with 4 satellites using the first version of the interface as well as the
main features including: recording a model sound, selecting a loop on the model sound, controlling synthesis parameters...
First stage of learning by Jean-Brice Godet
Early phase of learning by Jean-Brice
Video by Jean-Brice showing an early phase of learning the instrument at home. Filmed in April 2023.
Simone Solo & French Open
Video by Jean-Brice showing him use a live TV broadcast to record sounds within Simone Solo. Filmed in June 2023.
Improvised duo session with Jean-Philippe Feiss on the cello. Filmed in September 2023 at Ircam.

Scaling up the system to 40 satellites
Jean-Brice rehearsing with 40 satellites
Jean-Brice rehearsing for his performance for Simone Solo with 40 satellites. Pay attention to his reaction ranging from laughter to confusion.
Filmed in the Espace de Projection at Ircam in January 2024.
Jean-Brice Godet - Clarissime Iris [DOTS Project]
Jean-Brice playing his piece Clarissime Iris for Simone Solo with 40 satellites.
Filmed in the Espace de Projection at Ircam in March 2024.
Simone Solo v2 - using the realtime input mode
Simone Solo self-functioning mode
This video shows Simone Solo in a self-functioning mode with information feedback made possible by the "realtime input mode"
implemented in the second version of the interface. The input microphone is placed near the loudspeakers of 4 satellites.
The output sound of the satellites is instantly picked up by the microphone and fed in the analysis process thus resulting in
a feedback loop.
Augmenting an instrument with Simone Solo
Simone Solo can easily be used to augment an instrument.
This video shows me playing the piano and 4 satellites reacting to it in
real time using the "realtime input mode" implemented in the second version of Simone Solo.
